Venice Canal View 1
By Raymond Phillips
Few destinations in the world conjure up more visions of the exotic and the mysterious than Venice, Italy's pearl in the lagoon. Most folks are familiar with the view from St. Mark's Piazza across the lagoon to Chiesa di San Giorgio Maggiore with all the gondolas lined up bobbing in the Grand Canal in the foreground. This image was more difficult to get. It is far west on the Giardini Ex Reali, a street that always seems to be blocked by construction. One morning it wasn't and I was able to capture this very peaceful view of the Basilica di Santa Maria della Salute across the Canal with the banner of San Marco snapping crisply in the morning breeze. This print presents a painterly panoramic quality.
